July For Kings / New Vega – Southgate House Revival

July For Kings is a Cincinnati band that has persevered through more than its fair share of hardships.  From a premature end to their foray into the ranks of major labels to band member turnover, the most important thing remained constant – great songs.  With sweet love songs and angst-y rock anthems, JFK frontman Joe Hedges uses his enviable lyrical prowess to craft intricate songs that are never devoid of emotion.  The band’s lineup has stabilized and sounds as tight as ever as they blazed through their set.  They played one of my favorite songs, “Float Away” of of their 2005 album Nostalgia.  The openers, New Vega from Dayton, OH also put on a great show with their piano based rock.
